A TOUR OF TRANSFIGURATION SCHOOL
We will be touring Transfiguration School building the day of the reunion 2:00 PM sharp.
We will meet in the playground at 2:00 PM on August 6. A friendly & welcoming gentleman named Shir Wasir will be with us. Please park on Sycamore. In an orderly fashion we will visit some but not all of the building. We will start in the basement. The basement is currently an active Muslim bookstore that any of us could walk into during business hours. When we go into the bookstore we must remove our shoes, that is not true of the rest of building. Shir & I walked upstairs & through the old Principals office & the classroom connected to the office on the 1st floor. The remainder of the 1st floor was closed off. There may be another classroom open by the time we visit. This area of the 1st floor is being used for educational purposes by the residential Muslim community. We then walked to the gym on the 2nd floor. This too is being used by the Muslim community for recreational purposes. The remainder of the 2nd floor is currently closed off but again a portion may be opened by the time we visit. After our visit we will walk the perimeter & the grounds going down Sycamore, turning on Mills past the church, turning on Stanislaus & going to the front of the school. You will then have the option to continue down Stanislaus to Fillmore & back to your vehicle or walk through the path past the rectory, church, convent & school & back to the playground. Some of what you will see will bring back memories and that is why most of us are doing this. Some of what you will see may sadden or distress you but verbalizing that sadness or not controlling your emotions would not be appropriate. You will have plenty of opportunity for discussion later in the evening. My interaction with Shir & the other Muslim people that I met at the school was friendly & respectful, that will continue during our visit. I have not asked if we could take photos but I will ask that the next time I meet with Shir. The old convent is currently a halfway house for people with problems. They know we will be on the grounds. They are having an activity starting at 5:00 PM. but I expect we will be gone by 3:30 so that we can get to mass at 4:30 at the Lam Post. I have indicated to our hosts that I would give them an approximate count during our next meeting so please indicate if you are going no later that July 15, 2016.
